So, this past Saturday as I was out at Circle B, and as usual when taking photographs of the birds, particularly those in or over the water, hunting, I take a series of photos as things can change so quickly. Then when I get back and review what I took, I usually find the ones that I like, work on them and post a few. Sometimes when I get lucky and have several that come out, I find it very difficult to pick out certain ones that may be better than others. For this post, in addition to a few other photographs, I wanted to try to show a series of photos in order to show more of what was happening and what I was lucky enough to observe. There are of course times where there will be slight gaps due to user errors and some that are a bit more than soft.
We start then not with what I just described, but a different series of shots. On this day we decided to head a different direction instead of going straight to the lake and pier. Just after sunrise, the morning light was beautiful and we had the opportunity to try to photograph the smaller birds amongst the brush.
The following three shots: 5O4A0006, 5O4A0007, 5O4A0008
Generally when out shooting together, Mike and I try to let each other know if we see something or we think that something may be about to happen. In this case, he was looking south off the pier, while I was looking north, and indicated that an osprey with a fish was about to go over the pier (the pier is covered) and I should see it as soon as it comes over the top. Fortunately for me and not Mike in this case, he was not only correct, but as soon as the osprey came over, she made a left turn to land in a very near cypress tree. The following four shots: 5O4A9355, 5O4A9356, 5O4A9358, 5O4A9360
I captured a few more just after landing, and then took this, as she prepared to feast. I imagine Mike got a shot very similar to this last one as in this case I don’t believe he made it to the other side of the pier to get the landing.
While at the pier hoping to catch an osprey or bald eagle, some of the smaller birds were feasting, or trying to before being chased. These are shots: 5O4A9470 - 5O4A9478
The following three shots: 5O4A9759, 5O4A9760, 5O4A9763
The following four shots: 5O4A9953, 5O4A9954, 5O4A9955, 5O4A9956
This series of shots (5O4A9963 - 5O4A9973, less 0065, 0070, and 0072) were taken as the osprey left it’s branch after hearing the call of another osprey, shortly after take off, the other osprey can be seen in pursuit.
The following three shots: 5O4A9931, 5O4A9932, 5O4A9934
Mike, I was finally able to grab a shot of a bird with a background that was not solid white or solid blue. I got white and blue in the same photo.
